In this experiment, Dr. Edward Tronick reveals how quickly even very young infants lose control when faced with neglect. As difficult as it is to watch this young baby struggle to get her mom's attention, the bond is luckily quickly reformed when mom begins to respond to baby's cues.

Dr. Tronick's work began to show how important interactive play with infants is to their development. After prolonged exposure to neglectful caregivers, infants begin to feel stress at early signs of neglect, and eventually give up on having positive interactions. This shows how important interaction is, but also how important it is to maintain the connections infants form with caregivers.
