Dog isn't just man's best friend. He's little girl's best friend too, and Bella Burton and her Great Dane prove it. In a video uploaded to YouTube on Nov. 6, Burton of Woburn, Mass. is revealed to have Morquio syndrome, a rare incurable disease that causes abnormal bone development. However, despite being previously confined to crutches or a wheelchair, 11-year-old Burton's whole life changed when she met George, a service dog from the Service Dog Project in Ipswitch, Mass. The pair formed an immediate bond.

George helps Burton walk and makes her daily life at school more manageable. Burton's mother, Rachel, tells Boston Magazine that, "'He basically follows wherever she goes. They sleep together in bed every night. He really is very protective and takes good care of her.'" Boston Magazine also reports that Burton receives weekly enzyme replacement therapy as a result of her Morquio syndrome and has undergone as many as nine surgeries. However, with the "'extra comfort'" George provides, this brave preteen continues to smile.
