While most of us don't like to think about coming face to face with an assailant, it's always best to be prepared for the worst. Regardless of your size and strength, there are several self-defense techniques you can (and should) learn that just might save your life.

The FBI's Crime Clock claims that an aggravated assault occured once every 43 seconds in the United States during the year 2013. An aggravated assault is, by definition, "an unlawful attack by one person upon another for the purpose of inflicting severe or aggravated bodily injury." With a statistic like that, it would only make sense that you train yourself in self-defense. You never know when it may come in handy.

YouTuber DarkMagician70 knows all about self-defense. He uses the video-sharing platform to demonstrate important self-defense tactics, most of which are geared towards women. In July of 2008, he posted a video about how to defend against a frontal choke. The minute-and-a-half-long clip has since been viewed over seven million times. The demonstration clearly caught the attention of many viewers, some of whom chimed in to discuss their opinion on the tactic as well as share some other self-defense techniques.

Of the many videos on DarkMagician70's channel, most are tips for women, but there's one for children and a few that deal with defending yourself from a gunman. In the video featured below, he shows how to elude a frontal choke against a wall. The video is geared towards women who might find themselves up against a bigger, stronger assailant, but make no mistake, this technique is valuable for everyone.

If you find yourself getting choked with your back against the wall, you must make your move quickly. While a kick to the groin may seem like an effective move in this scenario, it won't necessarily give you freedom from the assailant's grasp. Instead, DarkMagician70 recommends that you fold your hands together and drive them upwards under the attacker's arms. Then, grab their head and forcefully stick your thumbs into their eyes. With the attacker now disoriented, the victim should finish the sequence with a headbutt before fleeing.

You can learn a lot of self-defense techniques and martial arts-like moves from YouTube alone, but taking a class will provide you with a greater understanding. Plus, practicing with a partner will help you master the correct fundamentals. When it's a life or death scenario, you'll want to be properly prepared. A quick Google search for self-defense training classes will yield a plethora of results. What are you waiting for?

Below, check out this self-defense tactic in action, and take a look at DarkMagician70's channel for a slew of other related videos.
