After the city of Paris was besieged with last week's deadly terrorist attacks, the international community flocked to social media to express prayers, love, and support. Images depicting the Eiffel Tower inside of a peace sign as well as the hashtag #PrayersForParis trended globally.
However, in the wake of the attacks, NFL player Benjamin Watson, tight end for the New Orleans Saints and a devout Christian, took to his own social media channels to question America's stance on prayer.
In a post on Nov. 16, Watson publicly called out why the US appears to embrace prayer during tragedies, yet penalizes individuals for implementing prayer in their daily lives.
This comment appears to reference Joe Kennedy, a Seattle-based high school football coach who CNN reports was recently suspended for openly praying on the field after games. Watson's posts have since gone viral, gaining over 56,000 Facebook shares and 5,000 retweets.
