"570,000 people are homeless in America on any given day." Startling words to hear, especially when you realize that number is nearly the same size as the city of Las Vegas, NV. Well, two stars from the National Football League (NFL) took it upon themselves to enter the world of the homeless in an effort to give them some perspective on how over half-a-million U.S. citizens live their lives every day.
William Hayes and Chris Long of the St. Luis Rams are millionaires on a mission. Many famous athletes have come from hard situations growing up; some have even been homeless at some point in their lives. Once they make the big time, however, they tend to live a life where they no longer want. All Chris and William want to do is have you think twice when you pass someone on the street, and think of their story, and remember that they are humans too. Something many famous people would run the other way from.
With $4 and no cell phone, their journey begins with them begging for money on the streets right outside of the stadium where they play (NFL players tend to be less recognizable, than say baseball or basketball players, due to the fact their profession requires them to wear helmets). On Sundays, people are typically begging for their autographs, now they are hoping people will have the decency to even give them a glance, let alone $0.50.
What struck me as odd is that even the tight-knit homeless community weren't accepting of outsiders. They were kicked away from a man's fire barrel, and slept in the back of an open moving truck. Their 24-hour journey ends with them visiting some of the people they came across and it's absolutely riveting. Homelessness is an epidemic that impacts every city in the country. Please spread this powerful video if it affected you as much as it affected me.
