Put yourself in this young woman's shoes - you're walking home after a day of school, and you find an abandoned child by some trash cans. What would you do? That's the situation the woman in this video found herself in. While some might call the police or run away, this strong young woman did the unthinkable - she raised the child for herself. What formed is a bond just as strong as any mother has for her child.
In some countries, such as Malaysia, child abandonment has grown to epidemic proportions. From 2005 to 2011, over 500 cases of child abandonment had been reported in Malaysia alone. Statistics like this show that the situation in the video below is not a work of fiction; these helpless infants are being left behind everyday across the world.
Abandonment may only be one side of the issue. UNICEF, a UN organization that specializes in emergency services for children, estimates that there are approximately 153 million children in the world that have lost one or more parents. To put that into perspective, that's not far off from the populations of Canada, the UK, and France
combined.
This epidemic is helped by people like the woman in the video, who goes above and beyond what's expected of her to give a child a better life. Her peers may talk behind her back, but her selflessness is absolutely beautiful and admirable.
